About the author(s):

Description:

Northeast Asia, where China is located, is an important basis for China’s peaceful development and the intersection of strategic interests of China, Russia, and the United States. In recent years, the Obama administration started the process of “pivot to Asia” and launched the strategy of “rebalancing to Asia-Pacific”, which are mainly focused on Northeast Asia, and in response to the rise of China. The strategic target of the United States is to maintain its dominance in the Asia-Pacific, regulate China’s peaceful development, and limit China’s maritime rights and interest’s space. Capitalizing on the territorial disputes between China and its neighboring countries, the United States strengthened its military alliances, expanded new partnerships, and deteriorated China’s surrounding international environments.

By the special study on the international politics and security situation in Northeast Asia from both historical and multidimensional perspectives, this book analyses the problems and issues of regional politics and security in a vision of international strategy. Based on the research on these special topics including US “pivot to Asia”, “strategy of rebalancing in Asia-Pacific”, the deterioration of Sino-Japanese relations, and tensions in the Korean Peninsula, the author explores regional countries’ security strategies and policies, analyses the geopolitical environment of China’s rise, defines China’s regional security interests, and proposes strategies and policies China should pursue in Northeast Asia. The purpose of this book is to provide intellectual support for Chinese officials and policy makers in conceiving China’s Northeast Asia strategy and policy, and a systemic comprehensive conceptual framework for common readers to understand the changes in politics and security situation in Northeast Asia.
