The overall competitiveness of economy is a key factor for an area, an industry or a domain to keep superiority and stay in an invincible position in the intense market competition.As an important part of the Chinese economy, provincial economy plays an important role in economic and social development.In contemporary economic development, China should pay attention to and promote the overall competitiveness of provincial economy in order to enhance the endogenous vitality and driving force of economic development.
The book consists of three parts.The first part is the general report, which generally evaluates and analyzes the development and changes in overall competitiveness of China's provincial economy during the first half of The “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”period (2011-2012),revealing the strengths, weaknesses and the variation in overall competitiveness of various provinces.The first part also proposes the basic paths, methods and strategies to enhance provincial competitiveness.In this way, it can provide valuable basis for strategic decisions about China's regional development.The second part is sub-reports.Through comparative analysis and evaluation of overall competitiveness of China's 31 provinces(not including Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan) during the first half of The “Twelfth Five-Year Plan”period (2011-2012),each province clarifies their own competitive advantages and disadvantages.Then it furthers studies the evolutionary tracks and enhances the direction of the overall competitiveness of the economy for provinces, cities and districts.The third part is special analysis reports, which give in-depth analysis on seven areas: macro-economy, industrial structure, fiscal and financial issues, ecological and environmental issues, scientific and technological innovations, regional coordination, international trade during the first half of The “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period and continues follow-up study on the inherent relationship between the development and the competitiveness of provincial economy.At last, it provides important suggestions for decision-making on enhancing the overall competitiveness of the Chinese economy.The appendixes include index systems for the overall competitiveness of China's provincial economy as well as all levels of indicators. Furthermore, statistical data on overall competitiveness of China's  31 provinces in 2012 are provided.
