The book provides a different kind of introduction of the basic theories of urban developments, and how cities have evolved since they first emerged. In setting this introduction firmly within a Marxian analytical framework, and applying the Marxian theory of space, the author hopes to help readers deepen their understanding of urban spaces. This study is an innovative exercise in using theories of space to study urbanization, especially within the Chinese context.
