The authors of this book divide Beijing’s migrant workers into local migrant workers and non-local migrant workers. They discuss such migrant worker-related public service policy issues as residence registration, employment, social security, children’s education and low-income housing. The book presents findings from in-depth interviews with 16 migrant workers and puts forward policy recommendations for the citizenization of migrant workers. As new Beijing citizens, they should enjoy the same basic rights, liberty and dignity as anyone else.
