This book reports findings from the project titled “Study of policy system for socialist new countryside”. Drawing on both data collected from fieldwork and primary literature, the authors look specifically at Guangdong and Henan provinces and Ningxia Hui autonomic region with respect to current agricultural development,  rural land management and, infrastructure construction, social security for the rural population and peasants’ needs and expectations.  Informed by China’s experience so far in building socialist new countryside, and results of both qualitative and quantitative analysis, the authors identify some of the most important issues to be addressed in this area. The book provides a valuable source of reference for policy-makers.
